Dried

The Monsoon rains have largely stopped in the upper Mekong delta. The vibrant super saturated colours and deep dark contrasts have been replaced with the more sedate, delicate tones and hues of winter.

I was lamenting this to a friend recently, both the loss of the fabulous over-the-top palate and cool and refreshing air that made for such fun shooting. My friend listened patiently to my goings on and then with a gentle, wry smile pointed to an image I was developing for a commercial job I was working on. “That looks pretty good for being ...dry” was their only comment.

It was just the thing I needed to hear to get me thinking about ‘Dry”

This blog entry is a photographic exploration of some of the colours and textures of life after the rains.

“Take some time in a quiet place to contemplate the balance between being of service -
both to this generation and to generations yet unborn - and renewing your vitality with play and celebration.
Without play, one becomes old and dry.
Without service, life becomes meaningless.”

“Today is what life is all about.
When I desire for the future to arrive quickly, I become unable to savor today.
I can't live in tomorrow, and when I focus all my energies on the future, I shortchange today.
Likewise, fearing the future emasculates today, leaving it dry and lifeless.”
― Jonathan Lockwood Huie

“I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time.”
― Jack London

I look forward to seeing you out there.
