I’ve been resisting doing the “hero shot” of me wading chest deep in a flooded village street, cameras held high over my head. The sort of shot that is almost obligatory if you are a travel photog. I’ll leave that one to others to do.

It is full Monsoon season in the upper Mekong Delta and with the rains come all sorts of challenges. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING gets wet. Getting to and from anyplace takes on a level of excitement and logistical head ache unique to this part of the world. It is not every job that lets you push a floating car down the street, get back into it and continue on your way.

With the Monsoon rain also comes such beauty. The fecund, luscious colours and textures of this time of year are almost surreal. That is why it is, without a doubt, my favorite season.

For this post I wanted to explore some of those colours, not in exotic locations but just down the streets and alleys of little neighborhoods and villages. The colours are everywhere. You just have to look.

Shine, the world looks fine.”
